Commander’s report – February 2018

2018 is a year of progress and change, not only for Post 2513 but also for the Veterans of Foreign Wars as an organizations.

New members of all service eras are joining the organization and seeking change.

What does that change look like?

New members tell us they want family activities and events that include wellness and hobbies. Less drinking, less smoking and fewer activities that include these things. Women want to be welcomed and included, not passed over to the auxiliary. Young veterans want to be welcomed and encouraged to join an organization where they can relax and find a new mission.

Membership, organization wide, continues to be a challenge. We are meeting that challenge by simply asking people to join and help us help veterans.

And we do this without getting party politics involved. Veterans issues are a nonpartisan issue.

Post 2513 members are working all over Johnson County to serve those less fortunate, which includes our veterans and their families.

This spring the annual CropWalk will be in April, there is a Patriot 5K again in April, there are food drives, events and help needed at Camp Valor Outdoors, The Healing Waters Project of Greater Kansas City and more.
