VFW MEETING MINUTES

Regular meeting of the William A. Carleton Memorial VFW Post 2513, opened on Aug. 18, 2021 at 7 P.M., using proper ceremony. Commander Howard Good presided with 6    members present. __No___ members were present electronically.

READING AND REFERRAL OF MEMBERSHIP:   None. Derrick Jennings reports he converted to Life member. Adj Shaw sent his name to QM Conen for submission to get his refund. Troy Blessing, Tim Worley, John Manzano, Terry Carr are on the list to get their refunds. Adj Shaw will submit Tiara Carr’s number to QM Conen.

 SERVICE OFFICER REPORT:   

There have been 25   funerals since June 1 and 42   since January.

 IS THERE A COMRADE OR THE FAMILY OF A COMRADE IN DISTRESS?

QM Conen reports we need to get them a list of those who are/were in the home to ask if they are living/deceased.

Adj Shaw has the PTSD family support group assessment and will email to all members in the Warrensburg area.

Linda Lockard, wife of life member, Lewis Lockard passed away.

Steve Del Vecchio at American Legion needs Michelle Lewis’ phone number as homeless chair.

Operation Restore Honor:

Membership:  Now through Aug 31 is the time to transfer in life members or upgrade to a life membership from the at-large list as we get credit for them in September. All-State requirement is 80% retention of annual members

Dept Cdr Jim Nail reports $36,000 is available for the life membership refund.

Community event dates are:

Aug 15 – MO State Fair Military Appreciation Day – report

Aug 21 –  Farmer’s Market 8-12;

Aug 21 – Boy Scouts/American Legion and VFW event to sort grave flags. 9 a.m. American Legion Post 131. This is a partnership event.

Aug 26 –  28 Holden Fair

Sept 4-6; parade is Sept 4 Chilhowee Fair                      

Sept 11 Farmer’s Market

Oct 1-2 – Burgfest in Warrensburg

Reports: We are 2 VSO and 2 POW/MIA event away from 4 or more events in each category. Adj Shaw will look into creating a POW/MIA page for the website, which meets state qualifications for that category.

199  Rifle raffle tickets have been sold.

QM Conen found the document stating the post does not own the property near Warren Street. The post can proceed with the application to rezone post land as General Business. All of the properties north of the post are general business. If the land description can be combined into one document, then the post won’t need a resurvey.

Adj. Shaw requests a new birthday list after the September life members are credited.

The Cornell’s delivered the new multi-directional microphone.

Adj Shaw will create a press release for the newspaper about the PP and VOD. She sent an email to Cynthia Allen letting her know the contests are open.

Cdr Good will attend the VAL meeting on Aug. 20

Cdr Good discussed some of the materials he picked up at the Military Appreciation Day. The Fisher House is for the families of hospitalized veterans.

Chaplain Shaw discussed some of the items on the VFWActionCorps bulletin including the passage of PAWS for Veterans Therapy Act.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: 

There being no further business, closing ceremonies were conducted. Chaplain Teresa Shaw delivered the closing prayer and closed the bible.  Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Next meeting is Sept. 1, 2021.
